About the exam

SAT is a paper based test and one of the admission criteria along with academic transcript , letter of recommendation and application for undergraduate programs in around 3000 colleges in U.S .


There are 2 types of SAT which are as follows

  • SAT test
  • SAT subject test

SAT TEST

The SAT is a admission test for undergraduate programs for U.S universities and colleges.It tests knowledge of reading, writing and math — subjects that are taught in high school classrooms of test takers.


“ HOW DO I REGISTER FOR SAT”


You have to register for S.A.T before five weeks the test date:

You can register by two ways

  • Register by mail, fill out the registration form in the College Board’s Bulletin for the SAT Program.You can get a free copy of this publication from your school’s guidance counselor. Or you can call ETS at 609-771-7600 and they’ll send you one free of charge.
  • You can also register online at the College Board website www.sat.collegeboard.org

“What would be the exam like”

Duration of the SAT exam is same as GRE which is 3 hours 45 minutes

"What are THE CONTENTS"


Critical reading

All the questions here are multiple choice. They can have one of two formats:

  • Sentence completion
  • Passage-based reading with long and short excerpts from works in natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and literary fiction

The questions assess students' reading skills, such as:

  • Identifying main and supporting ideas
  • Determining the meaning of words in context
  • Understanding authors' purposes
  • Understanding the structure and function of sentences

Mathematics

This section consists of two types of questions:

  • Multiple-choice questions
  • Student-produced responses

The questions require students to apply mathematical concepts and to use data literacy skills in interpreting tables, charts, and graphs. They cover skills in four major areas:

  • Numbers and operations
  • Algebra and functions
  • Geometry and measurement
  • Data analysis, statistics, and probability

Writing

This section consists of two types of questions:

  • An essay
  • Multiple-choice questions

The multiple-choice questions ask students to:

  • Recognize sentence errors
  • Choose the best version of a piece of writing
  • Improve paragraphs

Marking Scheme

Each section is scored on a 200- to 800-point scale, making the "perfect" score 2400


“when would I get my scores”


You can check the scores online from the site www.sat.collegeboard.org after three weeks of the test.

“how would I send the scores to the universities”

Student can apply for 4 colleges for free at the time of registration and additional fee would be charged for applying to colleges other than that.

“What is SCORE CHOICE”–

At the end of the computer adaptive test, you can send scores from your Most Recent, All or Any test score from all your valid SAT scores , only the highest scores of all the scores sent by you will be considered by the universities.


“Can I cancel the scores” –

Yes, there is an option to either cancel or report your SAT score, if you cancel the scores the scores will not be sent to the universities


SAT Subject Tests


SAT subject tests are the tests conducted to test the knowledge in a particular subject rather than the generic knowledge of Maths , English and Writing.You can choose any one of twenty subjects or can choose 2 to 3 subjects .


There are 20 SAT Subject Tests in five general subject areas: English, history, languages, mathematics and science.

SAT scores are valid till 5 years after the test date.It is an hour long exam with multiple choice questions.


Registration Fees

For US students – 52$

For international student-it is different for different regions.For India it is 42$.

For Subject test ,registration fees is 26$ and 16 $ for additional subject tests
